Summer Bioinformatics Training Program

The Louisiana Biomedical Research Network (LBRN) is happy to announce registration for the second Summer Bioinformatics Training Program - a collaboration between LBRN and the LSU Center for Computation and Technology (CCT). The Summer Bioinformatics Training Program will focus on transcriptomics data and will support an independent or team project with workshops, online materials and a hackathon. The topics we will cover include finding and evaluating Next Generation Sequencing data, data acquisition, quality control, processing, differential analysis and interpretation.

Research Fellowship

The goal of the research fellowship is to provide life science students with an opportunity to participate in exciting research projects and gain experience while learning about bioinformatics. These projects come from a variety of research areas, including oncology, immunology, neuroscience, agrotech, biotech, ecology and others. Each project consists of various datasets, primarily focusing on high throughput -omics technologies.

Bioinformatics Internships

LBRN and Pine Biotech’s bioinformatics training program will begin this November. Primarily undergraduate institutions (PUI) will have access to sponsored licenses that will be awarded to motivated college students who are committed to training in biology and data science bioinformatics.

To help reach interested students at these campuses, we’ve created a growth ambassador program. We are looking for high-achieving, self motivated college students, undergraduate or graduate, to work with our team as a growth ambassador for his/her university. Selected students will gain experience leading campus-specific initiatives. They will also have a chance to create a positive impact by bringing awareness and education to the next generation of talented researchers on the latest industry technologies and trends.

LBRN Introduction to Bioinformatics

Louisiana Biomedical Research Network is starting a pilot program designed to introduce participants to the basic concepts in bioinformatics with a focus on introductory courses designed for students of life science backgrounds. The program will cover basics of Next Generation Sequencing Data Analysis techniques like Genomics, Transcriptomics and Metagenomics.

LBRN Transcriptomics

Spring Session Graduate Course on Transcriptomic Data Analysis: Applied Bioinformatics Concepts for Life Science Research led by Dr. Gus Kousoulas, Dr. Ramesh Subramania, Dr. Lyndon Coghill, Chris Taylor, and Urska Svek. In this course, we will explore how gene expression can be studied using high throughput sequencing data, leveraging principles of bioinformatics. The course will cover essential steps of processing, analysis and interpretation of such data using commercial solutions for high performance computing (T-BioInfo) and open source applications (R).

This program is a collaborative effort between LBRN, BioMMED and Pine Biotech.

Grambling University Undergraduate Biological Research Course

Grambling University Undergraduate Biological Research Course is designed for undergraduate students to get an introduction to Bioinformatics and learn about Genomics and Metagenomics. In this course, students will explore the DNA code and how it is changed due to germline and somatic mutations. We will also discuss the way microbes can be samples directly in the environment and studied to see microbiome composition and variation meaningful for biomedical and environmental research. The course will be conducted by Dr. Paul Kim, Assistant Professor of Cell Biology at Grambling State University.

LBRN researchers can gain access to the T-BioInfo research platform with 5 TB of storage and 3 hours of support with one of our specialists. First 3 months are required to get an account and then, $150/month will be charged automatically until the license is cancelled.

Educational License

T-BioInfo Educational license allows users to work with public domain data and perform standard analysis with no storage space for data. $75/month
